Introduced at the 2012 International Builders Show in Orlando Florida, Perennial Wood Decking created by Eastman Chemical is a long awaited chemically modified decking material, was the most unique new product discovered in my exploration of the show.

The decking material is Southern Yellow Pine, chemically modified to be 3X more resistant to shrinking and swelling than unmodified wood, resulting in less cupping, bowing and warping. Every Perennial Wood decking board is then factory finished in one of four great colors.

This decking is installed using traditional wood working tools, and is currently being produced in 5/4 x 6 x 12' and 16' lengths and currently is available only in the New England Area.

I am hopeful this product will be fully rolled out into the Midwest in late 2012 but the reality seems to be Spring 2013. I will update my post as more details are released.
